Circulation of Materials:

The North Hennepin student ID also serves as your library card. A student ID card may be obtained from the Information Desk in the ES Building. An ID must be presented when checking out materials or booking study rooms. Community patron library cards are also available at the library's Check Out desk to non-student residents of the college’s district.

Books circulate for a period of 21 days and may be renewed, either in person, by telephone, or with an e-mail to our Ask A Librarian service, up to two times. If items are not returned by the due date overdue fees go into effect and a block is placed on the student's record until the item is returned and/or the fee is paid. For more information about our circulation policies please call 763-424-0738.

Research Assistance:

The library's staff is available to assist student, staff, and community researchers with their information needs. Questions will be answered at the Reference Desk in person during business hours, via telephone at 763-424-0733, or by email through our Ask A Librarian service.

Interlibrary Loan:

The library provides interlibrary loan service to its patrons through MINITEX, the state-wide library consortium. It is our policy to provide the delivery of requested books, periodical articles, and other materials in as timely a fashion as possible. We send out requests for items the same day the request is received and notify patrons when the items have arrived. Please contact Beth Finlayson or Craig Larson with any questions.

Reserve Materials:

Items placed on reserve by faculty can be obtained at the Check Out Desk. Reserve items are faculty-owned and must be used in the library. A student ID must be presented in order to check out items from the Reserve Shelf.

Library Instruction:

Librarians are available to provide research assistance and to teach library orientation classes. If you would like to set up a library instruction session designed specifically for your class please contact Lisa Forslund or Craig Larson.

Study Rooms:

Rooms for group study (i.e., at least 2 students studying together at all times) are available on a first come, first served basis (they cannot be booked in advance). You may book a room for up to three hours at a time by using your student ID at the Check Out Desk. Rooms are equipped with seating for up to six people and a white board. Study rooms are only available for currently enrolled NHCC students.

The Code of Conduct for Student Behavior and Academic Honesty at North Hennepin Community College is generally observed, but the following rules specific to the NHCC Library have been added in order that all users may use and enjoy the library. Library users may not:
