An Accountant examines, analyzes and interprets accounting data for the purpose of giving advice and preparing financial statements. Duties may include performing such activities as recording receipts and disbursements, and preparing state and federal reports. The accountant may prepare reports and financial statements electronically.
North Hennepin Community College offers an A.S. degree in Accounting for students who are interested in transferring their credits to earn a baccalaureate degree at a four-year institution, and A.A.S. degree in Accounting for students who are interested in moving directly into an accounting career, and three specialized certificate programs in General Accounting, Fundamental Accounting and Small Business Accounting.
In addition, NHCC is launching a new CareerSmart program that allows students to complete an Accounting Essentials Certificate in just one semester. This 11-credit, accelerated program will meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. To register, students will follow the normal admissions process, as well as complete the CareerSmart Application.
