Transfer Students
Planning in advance is extremely important for a smooth transfer process. To make your transfer process as easy as possible:
- Arrange to have your official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities submitted to the Admissions and Registration Office.
- Verify that you have satisfied the placement testing requirement and/or course prerequisite requirement before participating in orientation.
- Refer to the Minnesota Course Applicability System (MnCAS) to review how your courses will transfer into and transfer out of NHCC.
- Contact the Transfer Specialist or an Academic Advisor if you have questions.

Transfer of CreditIn general, credits for transfer are evaluated based on the following:
- Coursework must be completed at an accredited college or university.
- Coursework must be comparable in nature, content and level to coursework offered by NHCC.
- Credit for non-equivalent college-level technical courses considered as electives is limited to a maximum of 16 credits, if earned within the last five years.
- Coursework accepted in transfer is recorded without grade point average (GPA).
Right of appeal: Students have the right to appeal an adverse decision by submitting an Academic Appeal to the Counseling and Advising Department. Supporting documentation should include a syllabus, course description, reading list, final exam, or other project, which may provide evidence of the course transferability. The appropriate academic discipline will review your appeal and notify you of the outcome.
